Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate horizontal boring mill machine
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, sketches, engineering orders, work instructions, charts, graphs and other source documents to determine the methods and sequence of operations for the machining of parts and materials and tooling
- Set up, make offset, program adjustments, & operate computer-controlled machines to perform one or more machine functions on metal workpieces
- Perform mathematical calculations and layout center lines, reference points, machining guidelines and angular dimensions on materials, parts, assemblies and tooling for machining processes.
- Use proper material handling techniques to ensure quality of product and condition of equipment.
- Distinguish a variety of raw materials
- Work from part drawings and use required precision measuring instruments to check machine positioning and inspect work
- Adjust machine cutting paths or settings to optimize production while maintaining quality
- Adjust machine and fixture stops to maintain finish and tolerance requirements.
- Make machine adjustments, tool changes, etc. as required
- Apply a working knowledge of machining characteristics of various materials and metals to pre-set cutting tools on the machine. Adapt and/or improvise tooling where standard tooling is unavailable.
- Setup and adjust machine controls to include speeds, feeds and depth of cut, and proper axis to meet configuration requirements.
- Operate multi-position machines and perform contouring, profiling, turning, back spot facing, boring, milling, drilling, slotting and tapping on materials, parts, assemblies and tooling.
- Check to ensure that workpieces are properly lubricated and cooled during machine operation.
- Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problem.
- Remove and replace dull cutting tools
- Proof numerical control (nc) programs and first article work.
- Use hand, power tools and precision measuring instruments to check work in progress and final product for conformance to dimensional, configuration and surface finish requirements and tolerances.
- Burr removal on all parts where required
- Read and interpret blue prints and inspection reports
- Examine completed workpieces for defects.
- Measure dimensions of finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
- Identify all work in process pieces and finished goods pieces.
- Clean up oil using the proper equipment and disposal method.
Ability / Skills
- Operate tow motor and crane without assistance.
- Can read and interpreting blueprints and work operations sheets
- Can read and use calipers, micrometers, height gauge, and depth micrometers.
- Can apply the concepts of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations using calculators, computers, and reference materials.
- Understanding of mathematical concepts such as percentage and basic statistical calculations (CPK, fundamentals of plane, and solid geometry and trigonometry, etc.)
- Understanding of the horizontal boring mill machine controls
- Strong knowledge of g & m machining codes
- Strong knowledge of technical drawing reading skills.
- Strong knowledge of CNC computer programs and control panels.
- Must be able to understand and apply quality standards and gauging.
- Possess strong computer and software skills

- Meeting the quality standards of the company while rework is held to a minimum.
- Is responsible for making various parts to customer specifications by operating horizontal boring mill machines
- Maintain and ensure accurate counts on completed parts and scrapped parts.
- Effectively communicate continuity among work shifts by documenting actions, irregularities and continuing needs.
- May be required to perform inspections and analyses of processes to determine the appropriate actions needed to maintain quality levels on parts and processes.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; troubleshooting malfunctions and/or calling for maintenance.
- Maintain maintenance records.
- Reports issues in a timely manner to the Plant Manager-Mold and Machine Division.
Education and/or Work Experience Required
- Language ability includes reading and writing
- Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements
- Standing
- Use hands to handle, or feel.
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and; talk or hear.
- Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling is necessary for proper job set ups.
- Able to lift 50 pounds

- 1” Dial indicator with mag base
- Test indicator .001 grad with .025 or .045 travel
- 6” steel scale, and if 12” steel scale
- Allen wrenches English and metric
- Dead Blow Hammer
- Deburring tool
- 0-6” minimum Calipers
- 0-1 Micrometer
- Depth Micrometer 0-4” or 0-6” (prefer)
- Telescoping hole gage set (prefer)
